VW Surfari Adventure up the Pacific Coast Highway - November 2009 : What happens when you ditch the normal camper, move a few weeks worth of clothes, camera gear and a cooler filled with food and beer into a much smaller VW Vanagon Westfalia? You go on one amazing Road Trip, what else!

The VW Van is probably the best vehicle you could find to travel the coast. We're talking scenic, curvy roads with a top speed of 55mph and that speed is only for short stretches. Most of the time you're buzzing along under 45mph and have a ton of windows to see the glorious views out every angle. You'll have to browse through the gallery to see everything we found along the Pacific Coast Highway Trail.

Days spent driving HWY 1 North up the California Coast stopping at remote beaches to soak in the beautiful sights. Hikes through spooky forests to find breath taking waterfalls and sunset after sunrise of georgeous California scenery. The Hearst Castle, Venice Beach, Towering Redwoods, Pebble Beach and its gnarly Cypress. The VW Surfari van took us to some of the most saught after locations California has to offer.

These photos are just a touch of the memories we'll hold dear to our hearts for decades to come.

Thanks Bill and Diane for such a great expierience you offer with your Vintage Surf Wagons!

October 2009 - Leaving Yellowstone Heading South to Warmer Weather : October was a really busy month for us. We finished up our season working in Yellowstone before we left the wintery weather to head South to warm Southern Utah. We visited with good friends in Moab, went Jeeping with more friends in the San Rafael Swell, road Dual Sport Motorcycles for the Rider Down Foundation and hiked multiple National Parks.

We ended with month narrowly escaping another winter storm in Utah and landed in warm, sunny California where we spent Halloween with good friends in San Diego.

We've logged almost 3000 miles of travel this month and had some of the best times of our adventure so far. What a great time of year, and the journey seems to get more exciting with each mile we travel.

If you were to purchase any of these images, the watermark will not be on the print. Thanks for looking and make sure to visit often as we're always updating the galleries with more photos as the adventure unfolds.

Exploring the San Rafael Swell by Jeep - October 2009 : Cindy and I were invited to head out to the San Rafael Swell to go camping and Jeeping with Ryan Ward, his family and bunch of friends.

Little did we know we'd have as much fun as we did and come home with a new appreciation for Southern Utah.

This area is amazing and so much fun to explore in these custom Jeeps. We camped out in the desert, stayed out on the trail from sun up to sun down, shot guns and drank beers around a roaring bonfire. You know, the things us Rednecks like to do!

We'd both like to say a huge 'Thank You' to Ryan, Nanette, Steve, Clint and everyone else who showed us such a good time.

Make sure you check back often as the galleries are always being updated with new photos

May 2009 - Leaving Louisiana & Hitting Arkansas, Kansas, Colorado & Ending up in Wyoming : What a crazy month May was. We left Louisiana after spending a month there visiting family and headed North by North-West.

We explored the Northen sections of the Louisiana, then crossed over into our most Favorite state of all, Arkansas. This hidden gem is loaded with beautiful state parks, empty mountains and crystal clear streams. We celebrated the Memorial Day weekend on the Rock Bottom Ranch with new and old friends at the Chuck Wagon Races before we left for the West.

Kansas is about as boring as they come, but it lead the way to Colorado and our last destination, Wyoming.

It was amazing to leave Louisiana in 90 degree heat and a short month later be parked beside snow piled higher than our rig. What a great month filled with amazing sights around every turn. Like the song goes, 'Around every turn, we realize how far we havent gone'

If you were to purchase any of these shots, the watermark will not be on the print. Remember that this is the only way we earn money to keep our adventure going. So purchases are going to support a great cause.

New Orleans & The French Quarter - Louisiana 2009 : New Orleans or the Big Easy as it is sometimes caled is the center of the Greater New Orleans metropolitan area in Southern Louisiana, the largest metro area in the state and is a major U.S. port, not to mention the largest city in the state of Louisiana.

The French Quarter is home to some of the best architecutre we've seen in the country and hands down, the best People Watching known to man kind. The city is named after Philippe II, Duc d'Orléans, Regent of France, and is one of the oldest cities in the United States. It is well known for its multicultural and multilingual heritage cuisine, architecture, music (particularly as the birthplace of jazz), and its annual Mardi Gras and other celebrations and festivals.

The city is often referred to as the "most unique" city in America and anyone who visits will come away with different memories and great stories. Here is our rendition of this unique city viewed through our camera lenses.

March 2009 - Georgia, Florida, Alabama & Louisiana : Our 3rd March on the Road and like the ol' saying goes "3rd Times A Charm"

We left good friends in Georgia due to nasty weather, drove through a snow storm to Florida where we kept driving further South till we reached Palm Springs and our good friends Jeff & Jen. From there, it was all down hill.

We partyed with friends in South Florida for two full weeks seeing long time friends, visiting with Freak Bike Militia Kingpin Ken Prather and meeting cowboys and cowgirls in Okeechobee. After way too much partying we finally limped North. Stopping in Cedar Key, Gulf Shores, Alabama, and finally reaching Louisiana where we ended the month with Cindy's family.

This gallery shows how we like to travel. Having fun the entire time and making memories with every mile behind us.

Bellingrath Gardens - Alabama : The Bellingrath Gardens and Home was the creation of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bellingrath. The Gardens first opened to the public in 1932 while a national garden club meeting was taking place in Mobile, Alabama. Mr. Bellingrath placed an ad in the Mobile paper, announcing that anyone who would like to see the spring garden could do so free of charge. After an overwhelming response, the couple decided to keep the gardens open year-round, beginning in 1934.

Throughout the year, this 65 acre Garden Estate is in full bloom with camellias in the winter, azaleas in the spring, roses in the summer, chrysanthemums in autumn and Magic Christmas in Lights during the holiday season.

We visited in the Spring when the Azaleas were blooming and filling our entire days walk with heavenly smells and bright colors in every direction we looked.

I'd recommend a late afternoon arrival as the light was perfect for photography.

Desert Southwest of North America : The lower section of the Untied States located in the Southwestern section of the map is so iconic when it comes to its landscape. Many photographers have made full careers of just trying to capture its beauty.

This gallery really only shows Arizona, New Mexico and a very small portion of Utah, yet we had trouble narrowing it down to only 90 images we thought showed the true wide open spaces this area is known for.

Traveling through the Deserts of the Southwest gives you a real sense of scale. You find out quick that life doesnt have to move so fast, and slowing down to get back to nature will allow you to see so much more of this beautiful country side.

Almost everyone we met while roaming around this landscape had the same beliefs. They loved the outdoors, they were in search of something beautiful, and many were content to sit back and wait for it to come to them, rather than race to try and find it. Something we could all learn from in this age of speed and fast paced lifestyles.

Crossing Death Valley California : Death Valley is the lowest, driest and hottest valley in the United States.

It is the location of the lowest elevation in North America at 282 ft below sea level and one would think it is nothing but flat, dried desert. Contrary to what one might think, there is only one small section that is the typical flat desert landscape you would picture when one mentions Death Valley.

In reality, it is very mountainous and surrounded by snow capped peaks of the Sierra's.

Way more beautiful that I could have ever imagined!

Superstition Mountains and the Apache Trail Drive, Arizona : The Apache Trail, or AZ 88 as it is officially known, links Apache Junction at the edge of the Greater Phoenix area with Globe via Theodore Roosevelt Lake, through the Superstition Mountains and the Tonto National Forest.

40 miles of steep, winding and mostly unpaved road past magnificent scenery of twisted igneous mountains with dense forests of saguaro and fero cactus, and several deep blue lakes.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore - Michigan : Living in Michigan for most of our lives, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore has been a favorite destination of our for years now. Sandstone cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, waterfalls, lakes, forest, and shoreline beckon you to visit Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

The Lakeshore hugs the Lake Superior shoreline for more than 40 miles. Lake Superior is the largest, deepest, coldest, and most pristine of all the Great Lakes and is one not to be toyed with. Paddling the Superior Shoreline can be a very daunting task. We've paddled in 5-6' waves and the next day floated along a glass like pane calm water.

The Pictured Rocks are best viewed from a boat or small vessel that allows you to get right up close to the beautiful cliffs. Late afternoon or Sunset is the best time to view Pictured Rocks as they take on a deep color change when the setting sun hits the rocks.

Cindy and I stayed at the White Buffalo Resort which is a secluded little fishing lodge set right where the White River and the Buffalo River converge. You couldnt ask for a more picturesque place to camp, fish or just relax.

Paddling the White River is a dream as it flows very smoothly, has some fun rapid sections and has plenty of opportunites to catch that lunker you've been dreaming of.

Buffalo River Arkansas : America's First National River - The Buffalo National River flows free over swift running rapids and quiet pools for its 135-mile length. One of the few remaining rivers in the lower 48 states without dams, the Buffalo cuts its way through massive limestone bluffs traveling eastward through the Arkansas Ozarks and into the White River.

There are sections where you have to be skilled with a paddle, and other parts where you can lazily float down without any effort.

THe water is tropical blue and the tall limestone mountains on each side frame it in like a skilled apinter would. Probably one of the most beautiful rivers we've paddled in all our many miles.

The Biltmore - North Carolina : The Biltmore is the largest private home in the United States located in Ashville North Carolina.

We didnt visit this amazing home while on our journey, rather we flew there right before the adventure started while our camper was being built and we were still in the planning stages for Every Miles A Memory.

It literally takes the entire day to tour, and if you want to include the gardens and winery as we did, plan on putting in some overtime! Our visit happened to be on a cold rainy January day, yet we still stood outside in the pouring rain for multiple hours wandering around the sprawling gardens.

We've promised each other we'd make it a point to come back in the spring to see everything in bloom. This house which was built by the Vanderbuilts as a second home, and at the time, had many ammentities unheard of for private homes. Indoor, Heated Pool, Electric Lights, Intercoms and other ammentities that we now take for granted were used in the construction.

During Christmas, the decorations are out of this world, and anyone who enjoys this Holiday should make it a point to take a visit during this time of the year.

There is also a Hotel, America's most visited Winery and the working River Bend Farm. Fun for the whole family, but especially anyone who is into architecture, history and beauty.
